Charalampos Papadopoulos, MSc, PhD
Group leader of the Erythrocyte Immunometabolism Group. Molecular Biologist with an MSc in Clinical Pharmacology. After his MSc studies, he pursued his PhD in Erythrocyte Immunometabolism, with a fellowship from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (31000€). Next, he continued with his post-doctoral research on Erythrocyte Immunometabolism, with a fellowship from the European Regional Fund (14600€) and the Hellenic Association for the Study of the Liver (8000€). In 2022-2023 he worked as adjunct Professor of Biochemistry at the Democritus University of Thrace. Currently, he works as post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Medicine, DUTH. As of 2024, he is tenured Biology Teacher.
Charalampos has published 18 first-authored papers, reinforcing the notion that erythrocytes connect metabolism with immunity in chronic diseases, such as metabolic steatohepatitis and dementia.
Apart from a researcher, Charalampos is also an extreme triathlete. He finished first and second at the Olympos Extreme Triathlon (middle distance) in 2023 and 2024, respectively. His biggest supporters are his kids and wife.
Prof. Konstantinos Anagnostopoulos
Supervisor of the Erythrocyte Immunometabolism Group, and Full professor of Biochemistry, at the Laboratory of Biochemistry, Department of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace. After obtaining his BSc in Chemistry and PhD in Biochemistry, he conducted post-doctoral research on the structure of the ribosome, under the subervision of the Nobel laureate, Ada Yonath. With the experience of 60+ publications in peer-reviewed international journals, 2000 citations, supervision of multiple PhDs and full professorship, he supervises and mentors the group leader, Charalampos Papadopoulos. Professor Anagnostopoulos is also responsible for the bioinformatic and computational analyses of the project.
Zoe Kyriakou
Technician of the Erythrocyte Immunometabolism Group. Zoe is a forth-year undergraduate student at the department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. She is responsible for executing the experimental work under the guidance of Dr. Papadopoulos.
Nikos Politis, Panos Veniamis and Dimitris Vlachos
Three undergraduate, but much-promising and hard-working students work in the Erythrocyte Immunometabolism group. Their work is to assist in the workload of the Erythrocyte Immunometabolism Group.
